Westkapelle
Westkapelle or as the Zeelanders call it “Wasschapel” is a 20-minute walk away. It is known for its lighthouses, the long Zeedijk, culinary offerings and the Polderhuismuseum.
History
Westkapelle has an eventful history. In the 15th century, the construction of the Zeedijk was started. Over time, the dike was raised and reinforced. However, the Zeedijk was bombed during the Second World War by the British, with the aim of driving out the German occupiers. This event is commemorated at various locations in Westkapelle. A visit to the Polderhuismuseum is a nice excursion.
Walking
You can also walk the "Defense" walking route. This starts around the corner when you walk towards the village and the Westkapelle forest. Here you will find a link to the route.

In 2007, the fields and meadows behind the sea dike were turned into a water-rich nature reserve. Due to its unique location, close to the sea and on the westernmost point of Walcheren , nature reserve Het Noordervroon is a true magnet for various species of birds. Several walking and bird excursions are held annually through the area.
Markets & groceries
In the summer there are several markets in the village and traditional ring-stitching competitions are organised. Very nice to see that once.
For your groceries you can go to the local baker, butcher or the SPAR supermarket in the village. In Zoutelande there is also a somewhat larger JUMBO.
